ABOUT HOUSING

We are a group residents, CDC leaders, and nonprofit partners working to strengthen home ownership, promote a diversity of housing options, including well-maintained and affordable rentals, seniors housing, and multi-family housing along transit corridors.

OUR PLAN

  • All neighborhoods will boast a diversity of affordable housing opportunities available to all (age, income, race, familial status).

    • Connect individuals and families with low income access to repair assistance.

    • Promote homeownership within the boundaries of the South Indy QoL Plan.

    • Promote a diversity of housing options for seniors.

  • South Indy neighborhoods will thrive with well-managed, quality, affordable rentals.

    • Recruit, educate, and retain quality landlords.

    • Hold landlords accountable to meet or exceed South Indy and city code standards.

Artist and Public Life Residency Applications Are Open!

Big Car Collaborative and Riley Area Development are excited to announce that applications are live today through March 18 for an innovative, affordable artist home ownership program on Cruft Street on the near southside. This partnership, made possible with support of the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP), seeks artists who’d like to own a deeply discounted home in exchange for their work in the community. Artists will be selected by mid April and in their homes this spring.

The goal of the Artist and Public Life Residency (APLR) is to provide artists with enjoyable and equitable home ownership while they work — in part — to collaborate with other neighbors and boost the culture, creativity, diversity, livability, safety, health, and economy of the neighborhood and greater community.

An informational meeting and tour of the houses will take place on March 11 at 7 p.m. at Tube Factory, 1125 Cruft St. Indianapolis, IN 46203.

Get more details and apply here today: https://www.bigcar.org/project/aplr/

Through a selection process that includes neighbors, artists of all disciplines can apply to be matched with one of five affordable homes priced between $49,000 and $72,000. Applicants can be anyone who considers themselves an artist. Fields may include – and are not limited to – architecture, culinary art, curation, visual art, public art, furniture, fashion, craft, design, film and video, creative writing and journalism, performing arts, music, theater, placemaking, socially engaged art, etc. Ultimately, Big Car Collaborative and its cultural and community partners are looking for artists who want to make a difference and see their work in support of the community as truly part of their art.
